Specialty Areas

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Our thoughts have a significant impact on our emotions and behavior. Throughout my work with clients, I focus on increasing the awareness of those thoughts that are keeping them stuck and identifying the relationship between all the three areas and modifying what is not effective in order to pursue positive changes that may result in a more fulfilling life experience.

The main modality of care that I use to work with my clients is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in addition to incorporating interventions from other therapies. I start the process by conducting an initial assessment and establishing the connection with my client. I conceptualize the case and start the work by assisting clients in identifying and labeling their emotions, recognizing the maladaptive thoughts and the impact of both on their ineffective behavior. Then we proceed to modify the thoughts and behaviors that are not useful anymore in order to impact the mood in a positive way. I call this the triangle. I explain and practice relaxation, cognitive modification and behavior modification strategies to my clients so that they are able to create a toolbox of skills that they can apply daily in their lives.

Mental Health: Effective coping with life stressors that impact emotions, thinking and behavior.

Anxiety: Worry, tension, preoccupation, restlessness, rapid heartbeat, trouble concentrating, irrtability, sweating, trembling, shaking, panic.

Depression: Sadness, hopelessness, crying episodes, lack of energy, lack of motivation, hopelessness, excesive guilt, low self-worth, disrupted sleep

OCD: Obsessive thoughts, compulsive and repetitive behaviors, feeling stuck in the thoughts, fear of contamination, fear of forgetting something, aggressive self-thoughts, excessive cleaning, ordering items, checking things repeatedly, compulsive counting

Adult ADHD: Inattention, distractibility, impulsivity, disorganization, restlessness, impatience, interrupting

Relationships: Conflict, lack of understanding, disagreements, lack of connection.

Trauma: Childhood traumatic events, recurring thoughts, reliving the experience, flashbacks, avoidance of reminders.

Supervision for LPC Associates

Having been in the field of counseling since 2003, I have obtained invaluable experience in working with individuals that go through multiple challenges. I was motivated to start supervising Associates with the intention of sharing those experiences and guiding them in finding their own path. I practice the Developmental model of counseling infused with Cognitive Behavioral interventions which is my counseling foundation. I focus on the growth of the counselor and provide support along the way. I am curious, empathetic, understanding, encouraging and a problem solver. I understand that becoming an effective counselor is a process with multiple stages and each of them requires a different approach that will result in growth and confidence. If you want to hear more about my experience and approach please contact me to schedule a consultation.
